The First Report
What's up everyone and welcome back to River's Reports. A couple weeks have past since I first launched this page and with it being the start of school and football there is plenty to share with ya'll. The Tigers and the Chiefs have launched off their seasons, rush week is over, I went back to work for a weekend and I have now broadcasted two sporting events.
I think I'm going to be doing something different and just adding a photo of myself doing stuff I enjoy so you guys can get a better feel of who you're hearing from!
Week 1 was simply a front for Mizzou unfortunately. Louisiana Tech was handled pretty well by the Tigers. We got our first game speed look at number #1 recruit, Luther Burden, who played all over the field. His first touchdown was out of the wildcat at Q then later on he went on to bring in a receiving touchdown. K State was a different story sadly for us Mizzou fans. The only thing Mizzou missed in their phenomenal recruiting class were some lineman apparently. Offense wasn't able to produce with Brady Quinn this time and the defense returned to their former selves. They were shredded in the run game by K States star running back. However there is good news, the Chiefs are hot again. Pat dropped five touchdowns on the Cardinals defense while Clyde-Edwards sent a message that RB1 is still his position. Note that backup running back, Pacheco, had a day with his first career touchdown. Defense proved that they haven't fallen behind with the loss of star safety Tyrann Mathieu. 3 rookies debuted on the defense and all proved themselves to be reliable. I think we no longer have any liabilities on the defense and this will help us late in the season and postseason.
SigEp turned themselves around during rush week. Attendance was better than I had seen since my own rush week a year ago. We ended up with about 12 new members, which seems to be right around the average for the other chapters here. In my opinion these are 12 good guys who will help us progress as chapters and hopefully increase in numbers. On another good note one of our executive board members left town for an internship so we held elections for his spot. Lucky for me he happened to be the Communications chair which fits right in with my major in DMP given that it is about the same as being a comm major. I have already started some work creating flyers for our upcoming fundraiser event that will help the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
Over the summer when I was thinking about my financial situations estimating how long I could go without working I didn't predict I would be spending this much money. I haven't been very smart about my spending and saving but I did return to KC this weekend for a weekend of work. In just three days I was able to get $620 for my checking. This week I also bought my sister's car for $4,000, which leaves me with no savings to fall back on so I intend to work as much as I can these next couple months. Fall opens up a lot of work opportunities with fall softball for me to umpire and still my bread route to fall back on. Unfortunately, fall is also a very busy time for our chapter and very active on top of that so I will be having to sacrifice certain events for work.
With school back that means so are all the fall sports so the broadcast team has been busy. As CTV Sports broadcasters, we are required to provide the MIAA television feed for people to buy. The first game that I was on crew was the season opener for volleyball in which they played against the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats. Something I had not realized was that UCM has a history of being good at volleyball apparently because we are ranked top 20 in the nation. Anyways, for this game my responsibility as camera 2 was to get mostly color shots. Color shots are the emotional clips you see during sporting events whether that's coaches yelling, fans cheering or players locked into the game. I found this job to be easier than I thought because there is a lot of emotion in sports so it was easy to find and capture a good, sentimental clip. More recently I was the technical director of a Jennies Soccer game where here I simply listened to what camera the director wanted to cut to and pressed a few buttons. It may seem tense but I actually enjoyed my time in the trailer. The environment and interactions keep you plenty entertained for the 2 or so hours you're working.
